On Tuesday December 13th 2022 we had local Councillor David White at FlyMe.
He took the controls of our Boeing 737-800 simulator for a flight from Manchester. It was nice to chat to him about all of the new and exciting things we have planned for the New Year, which will benefit the people of Barnsley.

Like many people in the area, I was aware of FlyMe.co.uk, the flight simulator experience at Shortwood Business Park, Hoyland, but a visit today genuinely did exceed any schoolboy expectations.
I had a brief visit to meet with MD Andy Hyde recently which resulted in an invitation to experience the Boeing 737, taking off and flying around Manchester today.
The experience starts with the check in desks, the customs experience followed by the departure lounge and boarding. Andy and his team offer conference facilities, networking and team building events based around Barnsley’s only International Airport, as well as school, academy, and college visits.
FlyMe.co.uk has corporate and private visitors from all over the UK. It was great to hear how people are visiting the area and contributing significantly to the local economy, with many making a day or weekend of the event, spending money in and around the locality, using restaurants, shops, and hotels.
Andy is clearly a very proud Barnsley entrepreneur that takes immense pleasure in flying the Barnsley flag nationally (pardon the pun). Andy is proof that we are as capable as anyone here of innovation in the creation of exciting and unique businesses that contribute to the areas positive development. Exactly what we need to be doing here to grow our local economy.
And flying the Boeing? Beyond fun. Staggeringly realistic I’m sure, naturally a little nervy and incredibly stimulating.
